Computer addiction: the hell of the internet in our lives

August 23, the world celebrates the day of the internet, a person who is a very active Internet user. Therefore, we decided to talk about what the Internet means in the life of a modern person.
How often do you find yourself thinking that you have again read out some text from the screen? Most likely, this is not the first page for today, over the past month, and far from the first in many years. The Internet in our life has become a mandatory point, without which few people imagine their existence.
This would not be anything special if the world on the screen did not begin to cross the line, giving life to computer dependence. Today we will talk about the popularity of the Internet, about the consequences of being completely immersed in it, and also about the impact that communication on the network has on a person.
Let's start with some statistical information. In the modern world, almost 4 billion people have access to the global network (of which about 3.5 billion have their own social networks), more than 5 billion people use mobile phones, and the daily audience of Internet users is growing by 1 million people. For the CIS countries, we’ll also add another number of “fun” statistics: people sit on the Internet for about 6.5 hours daily.
No one will deny that today we are too carried away in our desire to be online all the time. For example, going into any type of public transport, with more than half of the people, you will not be able to meet your eyes because they are immersed in their gadgets. A common sight is to go to a cafe and see a couple of friends sitting opposite each other and enthusiastically looking at something on their phones.
In the park, people walking their pets do not forget at the same time not to look up from the phone. There, in the park, on the benches are people who, admiring the beauty of nature, leafing through friends' news feeds on social networks.
Wherever a person goes, the phone is always with him. The phones also have close relatives: laptop, desktop computer, TV and tablet. In recent years, this family is only growing, because now you can access the Internet both from the watch and from the player, and the military even wear clothes that can surf the Internet.
What is computer addiction?
Any cooperation comes at a price. No matter how much humanity is proud of its achievements, it often happens that we ourselves cannot control them. One of the varieties is the desire to never let go of any electronic device, at the same time giving it all its free time and not only.
Statistics show that 50-90 percent of the population has Internet addiction, and such a wide percentage spread due to the fact that the assessment is carried out according to different criteria and on the basis of different forms of addiction. This suggests that in the best case, half the globe is not able to control its contact with the world of the Internet.
But maybe not so bad, as it seems to us? For example, any person is dependent on oxygen, but we don’t have more problems in life from this. Let's look at the impact the Internet can have on us if we give it an overly important role.
What are the dangers of computer addiction?
No control
A person always expresses dissatisfaction when he is limited in something. Does anyone express sympathy for their superiors for what they order you, and for the fact that they are higher than you? A man really does not like obscure laws aimed at belittling his rights.
Virtual reality affectionately invites us to be free and express ourselves as we want, because what we do on the network, we can say, is not controlled in any way. What do we have in the end? A person does not think what he is doing. He leaves a huge amount of hatred on the net.
Network trash
Officially, the Internet is a gorgeous source of information, however, as mentioned above, the almost complete absence of any control has led to what we have now. A large number of people create a huge amount of information that, in fact, no one but the person himself needs.
The network is home to a huge number of stupid sites, unnecessary advertising, spam, images and thoughts that do not pursue anything at all. For this reason, the Internet is beginning to lose its original function, because raking up all this trash to find something worthwhile is very difficult today.
Too much information
Today, there are approximately 1.2 billion sites on the network, and every two years the amount of all information on the Internet is twice as large. Hand in hand with this goes our curiosity, which is impossible to control.
The human brain works every day with crazy amounts of information that it receives from a variety of sources. This news, and memes, which have become very popular in recent years, and videos, and various images, and much more. As a result, we get a brain that is just tightly clogged with information that we absolutely do not need.
Let us analyze the situation using the example of news. News is a fairly voluminous part of what we consume online. However, to be sure of their truth is impossible, because they are written by people who saw something themselves or heard from another person. Also, state structures can make their amendments, because in this way it is very easy to guide the human consciousness of their citizens, who daily "eat" a huge amount of news.
Here we already clearly see the path through which information passes and changes very, very much. Therefore, is it wise to spend your time and attention watching news? What can we give this to us?
Constant occupation of consciousness
A person’s endless love of information, combined with computer dependence, negatively affects the brain’s ability to work for the benefit of its master. In order to receive, process and store data, resources are needed. At the moment, these resources are being spent on learning all that is necessary and unnecessary that we absorb every day from the Internet.
Any quality thought needs space, but when our brain is busy all the time, it simply runs out of space in order to generate important ideas for life. For this reason, a person has forgotten how to draw the right conclusions from different situations. He forgot how to make decisions, he does not know how to solve problems, he does not understand where to go.
Loss of observation
Why is there something on the net that is in such demand? Everything is very simple: here a person monitors what is happening in the world around him, here a person wants to keep up with the times, does not want to lag behind. This is a good desire, but to realize it by reading the news on the network is rather strange, given what we talked about above.
On the Internet we read about the relationship between different countries today, but at the same time, we don’t even know what color the birds sing every morning under our window. It is impossible to spy on the world, buried in your gadget. Instead of his eyes, a person chooses someone else's words, and this has nothing to do with observation.
Loss of personality
An endless number of stories, opinions and various life information live in the network. When a person reads all this, his attitude and vision of the world develops in pieces. However, in all this, he loses something very important - his own opinion, and after all, personality is the main weapon of any of us.
The Internet today has become a teacher of not the best things. A man copies himself like that in everything he can, instead of being an observer and doing something of his own. People strive to be similar to each other, we are afraid to stand out, to be unique, despite the fact that this is where the greatness of each of us is hidden.
Search for existing solutions
Since the modern Internet is a huge knowledge base, a person likes to look for ready-made solutions here. For example, a person often seeks existing solutions to those of his problems that he himself cannot solve.
This desire of a person suggests that the vast majority of people want to ride on a sled, while not lifting them up the hill. But it’s not possible. Modern man wants to get information, not paying attention to the most important and reliable moment of its receipt - experience.
We all differ from each other, each has its own thinking, a set of personal characteristics and capabilities, and each of us is in different conditions. For this reason, what one person wrote on the Internet, talking about his experience, is far from always suitable for another person.
Fear of problems
Dependence on a computer has turned any human action into something not very comfortable for ordinary life. A person no longer likes to move, so there are so many services on the network. Today, absolutely everything can be brought to your home: products, massage, you can even build your own home without even leaving your own home.
As a result, a person is faced with serious problems in resolving difficult issues. A man does not understand what to do with the difficulties that have fallen on him, and he can not do anything, because he does not have any instructions on his hands. And so the error is not far. The Internet will certainly not be taken to solve the real problem.
There are no actions, development does not occur, experience is not gained, this is all the result of our laziness.
The insignificance of virtual actions
Someone may say that on the Internet a person is also quite active. In fact, this is so, in the virtual world a person can do everything, but an important point is the world without consequences. And everything that a person does on the network is only a weak parody of actions in real life.
Remember, of all the significant events in your life, at least one thing happened on the Internet? By and large, what changes after you write another comment, put your new photo or watch a new video?
Wasting time
Which of us does not like to rant about the fact that he does not have enough money, time or skills in order for his life to be good. But along with this, we continue to spend our time sitting on the Internet. Almost 7 hours a day is about a third of the waking time that can be wasted. That is, the network steals from a person both personality and time.
Health effects
Another feature that distinguishes dependence on a computer is a very weak physical activity of a person, greatly affecting health. It is very difficult to be in motion when you are immersed in a computer or phone.
How often do you meet a person whose back is straight? And how often do you meet people wearing glasses? With the help of movement, our body maintains itself in good shape. The amount of activity in our lives is directly related to our hormonal background, which, in turn, has a direct effect on the mood of a person, the work of his internal organs and entire systems.
In fact, it is not so easy to love the world around you when you are not feeling very well, having about a dozen extra pounds. When a person is healthy, he rejoices much more often, however, the 21st century is a century of temptations, which makes it quite difficult to be healthy.
Network Communication
Dependence on a computer, which is expressed in the fact that a person is always on the network, has led to the fact that it is now much easier to find any of us on the Internet. Because the network in our lives has become one of the most common communication methods.
But what does it rob us of?
Nature gave each of us its aura, facial expressions, intonation, body language and the ability to feel everything around. All this so that we can very easily express our thoughts to another person.
Is a parenthesis able to take the place of a lively smile? Is human energy able to travel by wire? Are we able to send our intonation or gestures in a message? What are we doing? Could this be called communication?
When we send a message to someone, we give our interlocutor much less than we can. As a result, he acts in exactly the same way, although the true essence of human communication is completely different.
When we choose to communicate online, we ourselves are depriving ourselves of a huge supply of tools. Now we understand each other much worse, because in the end we get an anonymous text that is easy to perceive as we want, and not as the author intended.
Network communication implies an even more active involvement in the virtual world, because it now also becomes a place of joint leisure.
Change of attitude towards people
Since communication became available to us only after a couple of button presses, the importance and frequency of personal meetings have noticeably decreased. Not only have these meetings become very rare, but their quality has been greatly affected. Today we easily neglect our interlocutor, freely allowing ourselves to sit on the phone during real communication. But the people around us are one of the most important aspects from which the meaning of our life is built!
When we are constantly in touch with a specific person, we begin to value him much less. It is difficult to value something when you have it all the time in the right amount - this is the standard principle of human life, which can be attributed to each of us.
For this reason, during personal meetings, we bury ourselves on our phones, squeezing out a sentence from ourselves every couple of minutes in order to maintain a sluggish conversation. We think that nothing terrible is happening, because everything we don’t have time to say can then be sent in a message.
Losing communication skills
The network does not need to pick up intonation, you can think for a very long time before writing something. And if you suddenly turned out to be inattentive, then you can simply scroll back through the conversation and re-read the message you need. This is a very primitive way of communication, however, it is much more widespread. For this reason, we automatically adjust and along with this we lose some of our skills.
Unfortunately, real communication has become less valuable because of this. Dialogues are now quite boring, monotonous, and the interlocutors almost forgot how to express their emotions. There are a huge number of parasite words in the speech, and very awkward pauses are constantly encountered when a person tries to find a suitable answer.
It turns out that a person does not want to go somewhere, smell good and follow what he says, and even do not go online at this time. In general, real communication has become something extremely difficult for us.
Disunity
The original goal of creating the Internet was to unite people from different parts of our world, but it is paradoxical that it disconnects even those who are in the same room. As a result, all this inevitably leads to loneliness.
Communication at a distance led to the fact that a person was very distant from society as a whole. And society, in the usual sense for each of us, already practically does not exist, because each of us becomes on our own.
Due to the lack of the proper level of practice, a one-on-one personal conversation has become very stressful for a modern person, because for such a conversation a person is already quite squeezed and comes into contact with great difficulty. Thus, the main method of gaining and giving information is lost, and communication in the virtual world is not of high quality. This is confirmed by the fact that people have a sense of isolation and loneliness.
No! This is a storehouse of loneliness. It’s like we are alone, but in reality each is our own. This is all an illusion: an illusion of friendship, communication and life." Janusz Wisniewski.
If you argue sensibly, then this situation, on the contrary, should lead to people starting to get closer again, this state of affairs simply screams that people more often contact each other. However, as long as we have a virtual world at hand, we will use it to try to deal with our loneliness. Therefore, we constantly watch some films, play and drown more and more, depending on the computer.
We talked in this article about the negative consequences that the Internet has brought and brings, not at all in order to make the network anti-advertising. We are not talking about cutting off all the wires and complaining to the provider about awkward life.
We just covered the issue from all sides, showing how the Internet affects our lives. The situation that is now definitely needs to be improved, but that's another story. The main thing is that there is room for thought. And finally, we want to share with you some interesting facts about the virtual world.
1) In 1991, Tim Berners-Lee created the first page on the Internet that exists to this day. On this page, information about what the Internet is, how to install a server, browser, as well as other reference data.
2) In 1837, Vladimir Odoevsky wrote in his novel "4338" that telegraphs were pulled between different houses, with the help of which those who live very far from each other communicate with each other. By the way, the Russian writer did not finish his utopian novel, but, apparently, he predicted the emergence of a virtual world.
3) As you know, the idea of combining all computers together appeared in 1957 in the American agency for research and development. However, what is today the Internet (namely HTML and HTTP) was born during research by the European Nuclear Council. Tim Berners-Lee, already known to us, has put forward a proposal to improve the internal exchange of documents using hyperlinks. Everything happened in 1989. Subsequently, this very secondary project turned into the Internet.
4) This may seem like something fantastic, but it's true: 7 special programmers live in the world, in whose hands the so-called keys to the world wide network are stored. The word "keys" in this case refers to special electronic systems that contain a cipher. With it, you can completely reboot the network. That is, if a world attack by hackers suddenly occurs, then these programmers will immediately arrive at the US military base, where the Internet will be disconnected.
5) Most experts say that you cannot completely turn off the Internet. They are sure of this because the routers of world wide networks do not have a single control point.
However, in 2012, one well-known hacker team said it would “kill” the entire Internet. Then they managed to kill 13 critical servers. However, fortunately, the attempt failed. In fact, in order to completely kill 13 root servers (in reality, there are many dozens of data centers), you need to flood them for at least two days.
6) The very first webcam was tested in 1991 as part of a study by the University of Cambridge. She had one single goal: to keep under control one coffee maker and report when coffee was running out.
7) The first video that was uploaded to Youtube was a video about its founder, Javed Karim, who is also one of the developers of PayPal.
8) Sergey Brin and Larry Page have been thinking for a long time about how to name their search engine so that the name expresses a crazy amount of data that can be processed by the system. Someone from the team suggested calling the search engine "googol", since this is the name that has a number consisting of 1 and 100 zeros. When checking the name for employment, the person made a mistake by writing google instead of googol, but Larry approved this new word.
9) By 2025, a worldwide network will occupy an important place in the list of basic human needs. This conclusion was reached by specialists from a well-known sociological center. According to a report from the Pew Research Center, by approximately 2025, people will not think about whether the Internet is available or not, because the worldwide network will become something completely taken for granted and present by default. For example, like electricity today.
10) To date, about 3.5 billion people use the World Wide Web, while more than half of this number are representatives of Asian countries. Among other things, the number of requests that the network receives daily is impressive. For example, one Google processes about 5-6 billion requests per day.

11) In South Korea, in China and in several other countries where the Internet is accessible everywhere because of its cheapness, clinics are actively functioning for people who are dependent on the Internet. Statistics show that in the modern world, about 6 percent of people aged 15 to 35 suffer from this disorder. Experts argue that the main reasons for the emergence of such dependence in people are a lack of attention, communication problems and dissatisfaction with oneself and life.
12) Hackers crack about 30,000 sites per day. The figure is quite serious, which indicates that cybercriminals are very active. In total, the worldwide network has about 2 billion different kinds of resources, and the figure is constantly growing. We add that the increase in the number of sites can be monitored online.
13) Every 60 seconds, more than 204 million emails are sent on the Internet. 70 percent of them are spam. This calculation does not take into account instant messages that we constantly send via social networks and various instant messengers.
14) The Internet consumes power equal to 55 million horsepower. Such power would easily be enough to launch the Vostok launch vehicle.
15) In April 2005, the first video was uploaded to YouTube, which you can watch now, it is called “Meet at zoo”. In March 2006, the first tweet was made. It was made by Jack Dorsey.
16) In developed European countries there are many people who have never accessed the Internet in their lives. The leading positions in this list are taken by Great Britain and Italy. So, out of 53 million British citizens, 9 million have never used the virtual world. In Italy, the situation is even “worse”: here about a third of the state’s inhabitants have never entered the network.
17) The vast majority of traffic running on the Internet is created by robots, not people. According to an analytical study by Encapsulate, an Internet security company, approximately 62 percent of traffic is generated by bots.
18) The term "Internet surfing" is actively used today. He appeared in 1992, and was offered by his librarian from New York, Jean Armor Polly, who wrote several books on security services provided on the Internet.
19) The very first site in the world appeared in 1991. It is a regular page with several links. The most amazing thing is that it functions to this day. Today on its main page you can find links to interesting historical information. Website - info.cern.ch.
20) Today, August 22, 2019, the age of the Internet is 11,120 days. If you are interested, you can follow this online on howoldistheinter.net. On the same site you will find the most important events that happened in the life of the Internet and are listed in chronological order.
21) Often, people call the Internet a global network and the global web. People do not distinguish between these concepts, although in reality the terms have different meanings. The Internet is all computers and servers. The global web is the paths by which one computer communicates with another and information is exchanged between them.
22) If you take one ordinary email as the base and translate it into elementary particles, it turns out that to send one email to a person, you need to spend about 2 billion electrons. It’s scary to imagine the total amount of items transmitted through channels daily.
23) The number of electronic devices connected to the network is growing at a crazy pace. For example, in 2015 there were approximately 8 billion of them (telephones, smartphones, computers, and others). According to forecasts, by the beginning of next 2020 this number will increase by as much as 5 times.
24) According to statistics, dating sites earn about $ 1 billion annually. However, this is much less than what adult sites earn.
25) In the modern world, the fastest Internet can be found in Singapore. There, its speed is 56 Mbps. Sweden and Taiwan close the top three with a fairly small margin.
26) The vast majority of users are dealing with the so-called "white" Internet. We see its results in Google and other well-known search engines. But there are still shadow Internet and deep Internet. Shadow Internet is a system of sites that are located on separate domains and to which an ordinary user does not have access. Deep Internet - these are web pages that are generated by special requests and which do not have hyperlinks. Also, the deep Internet is a combination of all kinds of resources, access to which is possible only with a password.
27) 2010 plays an important role in the history of the Internet. It was this year that Finland became the first state to declare at the legislative level that Internet access is a legal human right.
28) Each file that you download from the network makes your device a little heavier. For example, a film weighing 4 GB, according to the estimates of professionals from the University of California, will make your laptop heavier by 0.000000000000000001 grams. The entire Internet with all its filling weighs approximately 50 grams.
