Scientists officially announce the discovery of a new organ in the human body.
As a result of studies conducted at the University of Limerick in Ireland, part of the digestive system was classified as an independent organ.
This is a mesentery that connects the intestines and stomach. Previously, it was considered as a fragmented organ consisting of many separate parts.
However, the Irish surgeon, Professor J. Calvin Coffey, concluded that this is a single structure. He proposed qualifying the mesentery as an integral organ.
According to the scientist, his study, published in the scientific journal of gastroenterology and hepatology The Lancet, could be a real breakthrough in the field of medicine. It also contributes to a better understanding of a number of diseases, as well as reducing the number of complications after these diseases.
Organ mesentery
Specialists call the mesentery twice the peritoneum, due to which the stomach, small and large intestines, and also other organs of the abdominal cavity are attached to the back wall of the abdomen.
Leonardo da Vinci mentioned the mesentery. But until 2017, it was generally accepted that this was an incomplete body.
New organ in the human body
Currently, there are 79 organs in the human body. After classifying the mesentery as an independent organ, the relevant changes were made to the popular Anatomy Gray textbook.
However, it is necessary to continue scientific research in order to understand exactly what role the mesentery plays in the human body, what is its exact function.
Professor Coffey said: “We have already managed to find out the anatomy and structure of the mesentery, the next important step is to establish its function. If you understand how the organ functions, then you can identify a dysfunction, and this will determine the disease. All this knowledge creates a new area for scientific research mesentery. "
Coffey claims that although the mesentery was only recently classified as an independent organ, it deserves the same careful and detailed study as other human organs.
Experts believe that, most likely, the mesentery plays an important role in such dangerous diseases as colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases, as well as diabetes and obesity.
About the dangers of hot drinks
Earlier in 2016, the same authoritative magazine The Lancet published an important study on the dangers of drinking hot drinks.
After conducting many studies, experts came to the following conclusion: if the temperature of hot drinks exceeds 65 degrees, this greatly increases the risk of esophageal cancer.
Scientists warn: too high a temperature of a hot drink can lead to the formation of oncology.
At the same time, it is customary to serve tea or coffee in places of public catering, whose temperature is much higher than the permissible norm. As a rule, the usual temperature when serving drinks reaches 80-85 degrees.
High temperature is the same risk to the body as, for example, fried foods and processed meat. This is exactly what experts believe and for this reason have included hot drinks in the list of life-threatening carcinogens.
